Brain Blindness Versus Eye Blindness: Genetic and Molecular Connections Between Alzheimer’s Disease and Visual Impairment
Current Issues in Molecular Biology 48(10):1081
The Blood Pathology Lab at Gachon University studies dementia and related brain diseases, mainly Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, Parkinson's disease, ALS and prion disease.
As of October 2026
We look for the gene mutations behind early-onset Alzheimer's disease and related disorders in Korean and other Asian patients, and work out whether new variants cause disease.
We work on blood tests that detect the misfolded protein clumps (oligomers) linked to Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia and Parkinson's disease.
We use resting-state EEG, neuropsychological tests and machine learning to tell healthy ageing, mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease apart.
We test spices, medicinal plants and their compounds for effects on several Alzheimer's disease processes at once, in cell-free assays and nerve-cell models.
We make silica, silicon and carbon nanomaterials for drug delivery and imaging, and study how nanotechnology is regulated.
We study how the brain changes with age and why some older adults are more likely to develop dementia, through brain-age prediction, cognitive reserve and later-life risk factors.
