나이가 들며 뇌가 어떻게 변하는지, 왜 어떤 노인은 치매에 더 취약한지를 뇌 나이 예측, 인지 예비능, 노년기 위험 요인 연구로 살펴봅니다.
나이는 알츠하이머병을 비롯한 대부분의 신경퇴행성 질환에서 가장 큰 위험 요인이지만, 늙어 가는 속도는 사람마다 크게 다릅니다. 연구실은 이 차이를 측정하는 방법을 연구합니다. 동아시아 지역사회의 건강한 성인 뇌 MRI와, 건강한 한국인 약 2,000명이 그린 레이 복합도형 검사 그림으로 머신러닝 모델을 학습시켜 "뇌 나이"를 추정했습니다. 뇌가 실제 나이보다 늙어 보이는 것은 치매의 이른 신호일 수 있습니다. 60~85세 성인 174명을 대상으로 한 연구에서는 안정 상태 qEEG 지표를 혈장 아밀로이드-β 올리고머 수치와 비교했습니다. 인지 예비능에 관한 종설에서는 교육, 복잡한 직업, 이중언어 사용, 인지적으로 활발한 생활이 알츠하이머병 관련 뇌 변화에도 불구하고 인지 기능을 지키는 데 어떻게 도움이 되는지 정리했습니다.
노년기의 치매 위험을 높이거나 낮추는 요인도 연구합니다. 노인은 여러 약을 함께 복용하는 경우가 많아, 진통제, 항콜린제, 벤조디아제핀, 양성자 펌프 억제제, 스타틴 같은 흔한 약물이 치매 위험에 영향을 주는지 검토했으며, 아직 근거는 엇갈립니다. 그 밖에 장-뇌 축과 장내 미생물, 비타민 D(칼시트리올)와 그 수용체 유전자, 만성 스트레스와 시상하부-뇌하수체-부신(HPA) 축, 파라콰트와 글리포세이트 같은 정원용 제초제에 관한 종설을 발표했습니다.
