Hyunjung Oh, Ph.D.

Research Professor

Biography

Hyunjung Oh joined the lab in 2025 and studies how the brain changes with age and in psychiatric disorders such as depression. Earlier work, in human brain tissue and in mice, examined age-related changes in gene expression and DNA methylation in the frontal cortex, the role of BDNF and of inhibitory (GABA) neurons, and the effects of chronic stress. Recent papers cover blood markers of damage to the blood–brain barrier and the choroid plexus, how vitronectin affects the oligomerization of plasma amyloid-β, and behavioral and molecular changes after chronic stress in mice.

Before Gachon, Hyunjung Oh was a postdoctoral fellow and then a staff scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) in Toronto (2015–2021), and worked in R&D at PeopleBio in Korea (2003–2009 and 2021–2025, most recently as principal scientist).
